Embracing Yourself in a Youth Oriented Culture

by | Feb 15, 2025

As we age, embracing our natural beauty becomes an act of faith and self-love. In a society that idolizes youth,
embracing physical changes can be challenging. Let’s face it, the wrinkles are deepening, the skin is sagging,
and the waist is expanding. For many of us the kids are grown, we are retired and in our golden years; Curses!!!
We’ve finally figured out who the heck we are, and now our bodies are falling apart! 😳 Yet, 2 Corinthians 4:16
encourages us,
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are
being renewed day by day.
” Our true beauty is found within, so what do we do to bring that inner beauty out?
We do not lose heart nor will we go gentle into that good night -as Dylan Thomas said.
In a world inundated with “anti-aging” labels and products, we, the new breed of baby boomers stand as the
pioneers of a new era, rewriting the narrative with power and grace. We embrace the beauty of growing older,
not as something to be feared or fought against, but as a journey to be celebrated. This is more than a shift in
language—it’s a movement. We’re redefining aging as a positive, pro-aging experience because every wrinkle
and silver strand tells the story of resilience, wisdom, and the simple yet profound blessing of still being here. It’s
time we honor that and live boldly in the skin we’re in. Aging gracefully means acknowledging the changes in our bodies and finding beauty in them. Each wrinkle and gray hair are a testament to a life well-lived, full of
experiences and wisdom.
When I finally chose to embrace my gray hair, something profound happened- I embraced all of myself. In that
moment of acceptance, I shed the burdens of societal expectations and stood firmly in the truth of who I am.
What followed was nothing short of transformative. The world, which had once seemed to mirror my
insecurities, and fear of looking old, began to reflect back a newfound confidence and radiance. It’s as if by
owning every part of my journey, the universe responded in kind, acknowledging my strength, my wisdom, and
my unwavering self-assurance. This wasn’t just about hair; it was about reclaiming my power, and in doing so, I
invited the world to see me as I truly am—bold, beautiful, and unapologetically me.
Here are some things we can do to age gracefully:
Let your wardrobe reflect your vibrant spirit. Choose clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable,
honoring the body God has given you.
Embrace changes with grace and dignity. Start by celebrating your gray hair, deciding to ditch the dye, or even
try a bold new haircut. Each strand tells a story of wisdom and experience.
Self-care is crucial. Develop a skincare routine that nourishes your skin and soul. Use nourishing products that
enhance your natural beauty and take time for relaxation and reflection. Hydration, both inside and out, is
crucial. Drink plenty of water and use moisturizers that suit your skin type. Protect your skin from excessive sun
exposure and treat it with the kindness it deserves. Embrace a healthy lifestyle with balanced nutrition and regular exercise. Listen to your body and respect its
needs. Holistic practices like yoga and meditation can bring peace and rejuvenation, aligning your physical and
spiritual well-being.
Enhance your appearance by taking care of your skin and hair with natural, nourishing products. Hydration, both
inside and out, is crucial. Drink plenty of water and use moisturizers that suit your skin type. Protect your skin
from excessive sun exposure and treat it with the kindness it deserves.
Most importantly, love yourself fiercely. Jesus said in Matthew 22:39,
“Love your neighbor as yourself.
” Self-love
is not selfish; it’s a foundation for loving others. Celebrate your journey, and let your inner beauty radiate
outward.
Newsflash!!📣 This is not just for women! Celebrate your age and the beauty that comes with it. Let your light
shine brightly, reflecting the love and grace of God in every aspect of your being.
Psalm 139:14 reminds us,
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
” Accepting ourselves is a testament to God’s perfect creation.

Don’t judge me.
In hindsight, I should’ve gotten this top on the right in a bigger size but oh well.

They truly have a life of their own!
From 34B to DD- I am not mad at it, and neither is my husband!! 😂They’ve been through a lot! Me and my girls are walking into 69 feeling blessed!

April Baby Boomer Here…
👋🏽 Byeeeee 68… it’s been real, it’s been fun, but honey it’s been REAL fun. 🎂✨
One more spin around the block at 68… and I didn’t waste a minute of it.
This is your official warning that 69 is about to hit different. 😏

Head to toe Thrifted and unbothered. Because why pay full price when you were built for the long game?
The silver is polished. The fit is FLY. And 68 has officially been escorted out of the building. 🚪💨
So here I am… waving goodbye to 68 like an old friend who treated me well.
But don’t get it twisted — 69 doesn’t know what’s coming.

Drop a 🎂 if you’re celebrating WITH me on the 27th!

Part 2… because I couldn’t leave it there.
Yes, life is fragile—but it’s also still ours today.Another morning, another chance to get it right, to love a little deeper, to walk a little closer with God.
That’s the gift. That’s the good news.
We’re still here… and that means there’s still time.

Feeling a bit sad today realizing that as the Bible says, “we are but a vapor”
In a hundred years nobody will care what makeup or designer clothing we wore.
I didn’t even know Susanne personally, but just knowing that she went in for arthroscopic knee surgery , came home and passed away a few days later from a blood clot is something I haven’t been able to shake. We are around the same age, attended the same HIIT class, just
living our mature years with the pesky achy joints that come along with aging.
Suddenly her husband is a widower, and her daughter is motherless. Just like that.
Are we prepared for the inevitable? Have You made peace with God today?

Psalm 90:10 states: “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow…”(threescores and ten equals 70 years) No doubt we are witnessing all kinds of longevity boosters that might buy us a few more years these days, but still.

James 4:14 says “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

So although this is a sad and sobering message, here’s the Good News:

1 John 5:13 states: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life”

Do you believe?

Part 2 is coming up. Stay tuned.

Heading to church… I would say help me pick but I already picked. I decided to go with the tie front. It’s a little more flattering and I get to show the details on these pants.
This great shirt is thrifted and it’s by Sandra Ingrish. The asymmetrical pants are both classic and fun.

Part 2. Be Patient.
The first man who buys you coffee is not necessarily the one walking you down the aisle — and that’s okay. Dating at this stage of life is about discovery, not desperation. Keep it light. Keep it fun. A coffee date can turn into a great friendship, a confidence boost, or the foundation of something beautiful. You don’t have to rush the process.
Get to know people. Ask questions. Laugh more. Expect less pressure and more connection.
And to all the men out there dating over 50 — I want to hear from YOU. Drop your experience in the comments 👇 What do you wish women knew? What surprised you about dating at this stage?

Part 1-Dating at any age is not for the faint of heart these days-but if you’re over 40…Ooooh Chile, it can be a real challenge in this changing world.
Some of you ladies give up after one or two dates, some of y’all don’t even wanna get started, and then lament about being alone. I’ve even helped some women with their profile, and then for some reason they don’t go online. I know it’s not for everyone, and there are a lot of creeps out there, but like Lotto-“You’ve gotta be in it to win it!” Stay hopeful, be wise, and stay at it if a relationship is your goal.
People often ask me where my husband and I met, so I put together a FREE Download with some dating sites, and a few tips about online dating. If you want it write “Download” in the comments and I’ll send the link to you!
