From the 70’s to Today: The Resurgence of Retro Fashion

by | Jun 27, 2024 | 0 comments

Fashion Lovers, gather ’round! If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that true style never fades. Just like a fine wine, some trends become even better with age. Today, we’re taking a fabulous stroll down memory lane to the groovy 70’s and showing how those iconic styles are making a splash in today’s fashion world.

The Iconic 70’s Fashion Era

Old Meets New

Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing a resurgence of these retro vibes, but with a modern twist. Designers are drawing inspiration from the 70’s, giving classic pieces a contemporary makeover.

The 70’s were all about self-expression, bold statements, and fun experimentation. From bell bottoms to platform shoes, from maxi dresses to oversized sunglasses, the era was defined by its eclectic mix of colors, patterns, and textures. Who could forget the flowing bohemian dresses, the fringe jackets, and the psychedelic prints? And let’s not overlook the importance of accessorizing—with scarves, headbands, and chunky jewelry! It was bold and fun! Click HERE to see some of my most iconic looks from the 70’s.

  • Bell Bottoms: Now reimagined as flared jeans, they provide that same flattering silhouette but are paired with more structured tops or chic blouses. And, let’s be honest, high rise jeans are, oh, so flattering!
  • Maxi Dresses: Flowy and feminine, maxis are still a staple in today’s fashion. However, they now come in sleeker cuts, with sophisticated prints and versatile styling options.
  • Fringe Jackets: Whether it’s a full-on fringe jacket or subtle fringe detailing on a dress or blouse, this trend is back in full force. And it’s better than ever—giving outfits that extra bit of movement and texture.

The Power of Nostalgia

So why are we seeing these retro styles making such a strong comeback? Well, for one, nostalgia is a powerful thing. The 70’s were a time of cultural change, revolution, and self-discovery. And now, with our fast-paced lives and ever-changing world, people are seeking comfort in the familiar.

But it’s not just about nostalgia; fashion is cyclical, and we often see trends from past decades make a comeback in new and fresh ways. Designers take inspiration from the past but put their own spin on it to create something unique for the present.

Embracing Individuality

By mixing retro styles with modern pieces, you can create a unique and personal style that sets you apart from the crowd.

Here are some fun things to add to your closet:

  • Platform Shoes: They’ve made a huge comeback, adding height and drama to any outfit—from casual denim looks to night-out ensembles.
  • Bold patterns: They’re back baby, and they are adding a vibrant and eye-catching element to modern wardrobes. This trend showcases a mix of retro and contemporary designs, bringing energy and personality to everyday outfits. Check out my latest bold prints HERE.
  • Boho flair: Choose flowing, relaxed-fit clothing adorned with earthy tones, intricate patterns, and natural fabrics like cotton and linen. Accessorize with layered jewelry, fringed bags, and wide-brimmed hats to complete the bohemian look.

Practical Tips for Rocking 70’s-Inspired Fashion

Incorporating 70’s-inspired pieces into your modern wardrobe doesn’t mean you have to look like you’re heading to a disco party (unless you want to, of course!)

Here are some practical tips:

  • Mix and Match: Pair a bohemian maxi dress with a modern leather jacket for an effortlessly cool look.
  • Accessorize: Use accessories to add a pop of 70’s flair without going overboard. Think oversized sunglasses, chunky belts, or a fun headscarf.
  • Balance: If you choose a bold 70’s print on top, balance it out with a solid, modern bottom, and vice versa.
  • Confidence is Key: The most important accessory to any outfit is confidence. Wear what makes you feel fabulous.

Vibin’ With Vintage

Incorporating vintage elements into your wardrobe is not just about following trends, it’s about embracing personal style and expressing individuality.

So go ahead and embrace your inner retro diva with confidence! Mix those prints, rock that fringe, and vibe with vintage like a pro. Your unique style will surely turn heads and inspire others to do the same.

Drop a comment below with your favorite 70’s-inspired pieces or how you incorporate vintage vibes into your everyday style. Let’s show the world that old-school fashion is here to slay!

Part 2… because I couldn’t leave it there.
Yes, life is fragile—but it’s also still ours today.Another morning, another chance to get it right, to love a little deeper, to walk a little closer with God.
That’s the gift. That’s the good news.
We’re still here… and that means there’s still time.

Feeling a bit sad today realizing that as the Bible says, “we are but a vapor”
In a hundred years nobody will care what makeup or designer clothing we wore.
I didn’t even know Susanne personally, but just knowing that she went in for arthroscopic knee surgery , came home and passed away a few days later from a blood clot is something I haven’t been able to shake. We are around the same age, attended the same HIIT class, just
living our mature years with the pesky achy joints that come along with aging.
Suddenly her husband is a widower, and her daughter is motherless. Just like that.
Are we prepared for the inevitable? Have You made peace with God today?

Psalm 90:10 states: “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow…”(threescores and ten equals 70 years) No doubt we are witnessing all kinds of longevity boosters that might buy us a few more years these days, but still.

James 4:14 says “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

So although this is a sad and sobering message, here’s the Good News:

1 John 5:13 states: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life”

Do you believe?

Part 2 is coming up. Stay tuned.

Heading to church… I would say help me pick but I already picked. I decided to go with the tie front. It’s a little more flattering and I get to show the details on these pants.
This great shirt is thrifted and it’s by Sandra Ingrish. The asymmetrical pants are both classic and fun.

Part 2. Be Patient.
The first man who buys you coffee is not necessarily the one walking you down the aisle — and that’s okay. Dating at this stage of life is about discovery, not desperation. Keep it light. Keep it fun. A coffee date can turn into a great friendship, a confidence boost, or the foundation of something beautiful. You don’t have to rush the process.
Get to know people. Ask questions. Laugh more. Expect less pressure and more connection.
And to all the men out there dating over 50 — I want to hear from YOU. Drop your experience in the comments 👇 What do you wish women knew? What surprised you about dating at this stage?

Part 1-Dating at any age is not for the faint of heart these days-but if you’re over 40…Ooooh Chile, it can be a real challenge in this changing world.
Some of you ladies give up after one or two dates, some of y’all don’t even wanna get started, and then lament about being alone. I’ve even helped some women with their profile, and then for some reason they don’t go online. I know it’s not for everyone, and there are a lot of creeps out there, but like Lotto-“You’ve gotta be in it to win it!” Stay hopeful, be wise, and stay at it if a relationship is your goal.
