From the 70’s to Today: The Resurgence of Retro Fashion

by | Jun 27, 2024 | 0 comments

Fashion Lovers, gather ’round! If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that true style never fades. Just like a fine wine, some trends become even better with age. Today, we’re taking a fabulous stroll down memory lane to the groovy 70’s and showing how those iconic styles are making a splash in today’s fashion world.

The Iconic 70’s Fashion Era

Old Meets New

Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing a resurgence of these retro vibes, but with a modern twist. Designers are drawing inspiration from the 70’s, giving classic pieces a contemporary makeover.

The 70’s were all about self-expression, bold statements, and fun experimentation. From bell bottoms to platform shoes, from maxi dresses to oversized sunglasses, the era was defined by its eclectic mix of colors, patterns, and textures. Who could forget the flowing bohemian dresses, the fringe jackets, and the psychedelic prints? And let’s not overlook the importance of accessorizing—with scarves, headbands, and chunky jewelry! It was bold and fun! Click HERE to see some of my most iconic looks from the 70’s.

  • Bell Bottoms: Now reimagined as flared jeans, they provide that same flattering silhouette but are paired with more structured tops or chic blouses. And, let’s be honest, high rise jeans are, oh, so flattering!
  • Maxi Dresses: Flowy and feminine, maxis are still a staple in today’s fashion. However, they now come in sleeker cuts, with sophisticated prints and versatile styling options.
  • Fringe Jackets: Whether it’s a full-on fringe jacket or subtle fringe detailing on a dress or blouse, this trend is back in full force. And it’s better than ever—giving outfits that extra bit of movement and texture.

The Power of Nostalgia

So why are we seeing these retro styles making such a strong comeback? Well, for one, nostalgia is a powerful thing. The 70’s were a time of cultural change, revolution, and self-discovery. And now, with our fast-paced lives and ever-changing world, people are seeking comfort in the familiar.

But it’s not just about nostalgia; fashion is cyclical, and we often see trends from past decades make a comeback in new and fresh ways. Designers take inspiration from the past but put their own spin on it to create something unique for the present.

Embracing Individuality

By mixing retro styles with modern pieces, you can create a unique and personal style that sets you apart from the crowd.

Here are some fun things to add to your closet:

  • Platform Shoes: They’ve made a huge comeback, adding height and drama to any outfit—from casual denim looks to night-out ensembles.
  • Bold patterns: They’re back baby, and they are adding a vibrant and eye-catching element to modern wardrobes. This trend showcases a mix of retro and contemporary designs, bringing energy and personality to everyday outfits. Check out my latest bold prints HERE.
  • Boho flair: Choose flowing, relaxed-fit clothing adorned with earthy tones, intricate patterns, and natural fabrics like cotton and linen. Accessorize with layered jewelry, fringed bags, and wide-brimmed hats to complete the bohemian look.

Practical Tips for Rocking 70’s-Inspired Fashion

Incorporating 70’s-inspired pieces into your modern wardrobe doesn’t mean you have to look like you’re heading to a disco party (unless you want to, of course!)

Here are some practical tips:

  • Mix and Match: Pair a bohemian maxi dress with a modern leather jacket for an effortlessly cool look.
  • Accessorize: Use accessories to add a pop of 70’s flair without going overboard. Think oversized sunglasses, chunky belts, or a fun headscarf.
  • Balance: If you choose a bold 70’s print on top, balance it out with a solid, modern bottom, and vice versa.
  • Confidence is Key: The most important accessory to any outfit is confidence. Wear what makes you feel fabulous.

Vibin’ With Vintage

Incorporating vintage elements into your wardrobe is not just about following trends, it’s about embracing personal style and expressing individuality.

So go ahead and embrace your inner retro diva with confidence! Mix those prints, rock that fringe, and vibe with vintage like a pro. Your unique style will surely turn heads and inspire others to do the same.

Drop a comment below with your favorite 70’s-inspired pieces or how you incorporate vintage vibes into your everyday style. Let’s show the world that old-school fashion is here to slay!

Mother Satori is 108 years old? Come on now!!! And Sophoni Laurent ( baddiesofia01) is supposedly 78 and out here looking looking real smooth!

Well…they’re not real.

And let me tell you—they almost had me fooled too! The crazy thing is I can’t beliieve how many folks are duped and I can tell by their comments.

These beautiful AI-generated seniors may be entertaining and inspirational, but they are digital creations—not actual women living these fabulous lives.
So before you ladies start comparing your face, body, wardrobe or aging process to theirs—look again.
AI is getting very good, and any one of us can be fooled. Enjoy the fantasy, but know what you’re looking at.

Meanwhile, I’m 69, still fine, gray hair and all—and as The Originals sang for all my old-school baby boomers: “Baby, I’m for real.”

Let me know in the comments below if you thought these were real people👇🏽

Quick ride to Jerome, Arizona just over an hour from where we live here in Prescott Valley. It’s a cute little copper mining town, there’s all kinds of historic stores and relics and places that have copper jewelry, which I’ve been into lately.
I heard the population is 400😲
I heard that it is a haunted little ghost town, and they actually have haunted house tours.
The views are spectacular.
It would be nice to spend a weekend here before it gets too cold!!

Sunday Service.

Garden metaphors and parables are widely used in scripture, and no wonder because they mirror life in many ways.
I love this verse:
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9

Life can be wearying and we all get “Tied”😩
Don’t give up Fam! Keep going!

On this day 4 years ago we tied the knot. The original plan was just to go to city hall, but my granddaughter insisted that I have a real wedding because she
wanted to be the flower girl and had several dresses picked out. She proceeded to shop for dresses and drove everyone crazy for weeks sending photos almost every day.
I’m so glad she did because we ended up inviting our children and grandchildren and it was a memorable event with beautiful Sedona as the spectacular backdrop.
Thanks to our wonderful families for showing up and thanks for taking the wonderful photos since the photographer didn’t make it!

Anyhoo-here we are 4 years later and it truly feels like yesterday. We are truly Blessed and want to encourage folks that Love Doesn’t Expire at 50. Our love story started when we were 60.

Thanks for stopping by!

Now this is a PSA for all ages actually…just some things that I’ve been thinking about, but I’m talking to myself too!!

We can have gorgeous clothes , and look Fly, But…

Waistline: I’ve always kept a pretty small waistline using waist trainers, etc. for years-but as I approach 70….yeah I said it-70… It’s increasingly difficult to keep that svelte, tight waist going. But I’m not giving up! There is a big difference in appearance when you have a trim waistline, not to mention visceral fat around the waist is detrimental to health and wellness especially as we age.

Posture: something else I catch myself slumping when I’m sitting down and slouching when I’m walking, I caught myself in the mirror as I walked by a couple of times and corrected it.

Walking: I know the joints aren’t cooperating as they once did, but you can catch yourself and train yourself to have more pep in your step.

Bra: Y’all, I’m not gonna lie. Everything is sagging, but I am doing some weight training to combat all of it. But we can all use a better fitting bra, which helps for more useful appearance.

Face: Facial expressions- sour face or smile? Pro tip: Yes, smiling triggers a chemical reaction in the brain that releases endorphins, along with dopamine and serotonin. This process is part of the facial feedback loop, where the physical act of moving facial muscles sends signals back to the brain to lift your mood and lower stress.

There are so many things that we can change about ourselves. I know some of them are habits that are deeply embedded, but it’s still not too late.
Anyway, just a few little tips if you’re wanting to look and maybe feel a little peppier. And like I said this is for everyone, even you young folks. If you start now you’ll be ahead of the game..

What are your thoughts? Do you have any other tips for enhancing a more youthful appearance?

Do you even care? 😅

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!
