From Brooklyn, With Love

A Trip that was Good for My Soul

There’s something about Brooklyn that just stays with you. No matter where life takes you, the memories, the sights, the sounds, and the smells remain etched in your soul. Recently, I had the pleasure of taking my hubby back to my old stomping grounds, and it was nothing short of magical. We flew to New York for my birthday, but it was so much more than just a celebration. It was a homecoming, a reconnection with a place that holds so much of my heart.

As we walked through the streets of Brooklyn, hand in hand, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and nostalgia wash over me. The streets were still bustling with life, the smell of fresh bagels and coffee permeating the air. The beautiful chaos of diverse cultures coming together to create an energy unlike anywhere else in the world.

But what truly makes Brooklyn special is not just its vibrant atmosphere or its trendy neighborhoods. It’s the people who call it home. From the old-timers who have been there for generations to the new transplants looking for their place in this concrete jungle, Brooklyn is a melting pot of different backgrounds, stories, and experiences.

Growing up in the Brooklyn housing projects wasn’t just a chapter in my life; it was the foundation upon which I built my dreams and aspirations. The Gowanus Housing Project, just a few subway stops from Manhattan, was the place I called home. At the age of 14, navigating the subway alone was a normal part of my daily routine. It was a different era—kinder in some respects, yet harsher in others. Living across the street from a liquor store, I vividly recall passing by heroin addicts nodding off as I made my way to the train station.

Wanna see more of my old stomping grounds? Check out my post all about it HERE. And, be sure to read on for more of the adventures we had!

Strolling Through Williamsburg

We wandered through the streets of Williamsburg, taking in all the sights and sounds that make Brooklyn so special. From the hip cafes to the vibrant street art, every corner of Williamsburg was a reminder of why Brooklyn will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s a neighborhood that’s seen it all and still stands strong—a true testament to the spirit of Brooklynites.

Authentic Bagels and Good Food

You can’t talk about Brooklyn without mentioning the food. Oh, the food! We indulged in some of the most scrumptious food that I’ve ever had. But, you know what stole the show? The BAGELS! There’s something magical about an authentic New York bagel, with its perfect balance of chewiness and flavor. Find out more about what I ordered HERE. Seriously, if you find yourself in NY, get a bagel. It might change your life!

Family and Fun

A huge highlight of our trip was the quality time we spent with family, sharing stories and laughs, and reminiscing about the good old days. There’s nothing like being surrounded by loved ones in a place that holds so many memories. We took a day trip to the Village of Croton and soaked up every moment we could.  It was a time of joy, love, and connection, and it reminded me of the importance of family and community. I especially enjoyed hangin’ out with my grandbabies and making memories with them at a beautiful park.

The Power of Transformation

The city has changed a lot over the years. Gentrification happened early on, and many neighborhoods have transformed dramatically. Brooklyn is the new Manhattan, y’all!

But no matter how much it changes, Brooklyn’s spirit remains the same, and it will always be a part of me. It is more than a place; it’s a feeling, a memory, and an inspiration. It will always be my home.

With love,

P.S. I would love to hear more about the place that you call home. Comment below to tell me all about the place that has your heart.

There’s something about getting older that teaches you the difference between luxury and peace. One costs money. The other costs years.
Years of lessons.Years of heartbreak.Years of overextending, overthinking, overgiving.
So yes… these days I’ll gladly sit in beautiful places, wear the white linen, order the good meal, and disappear into serene aqua views without one ounce of guilt.
Because this softness? It wasn’t handed to me.I earned every bit of it.
Bali has been good for my spirit.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is step away from the noise…
At this age, I no longer vacation to impress people.I vacation to hear myself think again.

Do you need a reset?
A monkey literally stole my eyeglasses right off my face!!
We were forewarned by everyone including staff, and a woman who had just witnessed phones and sunglasses getting stolen, and the monkeys running off into the trees, never to be seen again!
We were careful, or so we thought.
I held onto the rim of my glasses while walking , and we held our phones securely in front us.
I felt someone push me. It felt like a person, until I realized it was a monkey. Then we stopped to ask a quick question, dropped our guard and Mr. Monkey swooped down and grabbed my glasses before I even realized it! He was that quick. A local guide saved the day by throwing a banana at him, and he dropped my glasses.
I saw him up in that tree and thought they would be gone forever! Grateful for the guide. We didn’t see him in action crafty suckas!!😂🙈🐒

Yes, Virginia, Bali is everything I have ever dreamed of! Lush.Tropical.Hot.

It was worth the long flight… three legs-Phoenix to Seattle, Seattle to Taiwan, Taiwan to Bali. So if you are planning to go, you will lose a day going, and gain a day coming back. That’s why we decided to at least be here more than a week because it made more sense.
Anyway, here are some tidbits, and keep checking in for more. There’s a lot more to see, and we’ve just begun!

Still here enjoying Bali- but my hair…not so much, so I decided to get my hair braided at a local massage spa (Anggita spa Seminyak )that also braided hair lol. I didn’t quite know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. As you can see in the video it’s a whole different process than it is in the states where the hair is already packaged. They unravel ribbon and turn it into Hair filaments. It was amazing anyway check out the video so you can see the process and let me know what you think below!
