Learning to Be Content in the Chaos

by | Jul 29, 2024 | 0 comments

In a world that seems to be spinning faster than we can keep up with, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we have the power to find peace and happiness right where we are. It’s all about learning to be content in the chaos.

The Quest for Contentment

Today’s world constantly bombards us with messages telling us to do more, be more, and achieve more. It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos, forgetting the simple joys that make life so beautiful. But when we pause to appreciate what we have, we discover a profound sense of contentment.

Why Contentment Matters

Contentment isn’t about settling for less; it’s about recognizing and appreciating the abundance that already exists in our lives.

When we learn to be content, we:

Reduce Stress

By focusing on what we have instead of what we lack, we lower our stress levels and improve our overall well-being. Life is beautiful, and when we appreciate this fact, our stress melts away, revealing a more serene existence.

Enhance Relationships

Contentment helps us build stronger, more meaningful relationships. When we’re not constantly striving for external validation, we can truly connect with others on a deeper level.

Boost Creativity

With a clear and peaceful mind, we’re free to explore our passions and express our creativity in new and exciting ways. Contentment opens the door to creative exploration and innovation.

My Journey to Contentment

I’ve had my share of ups and downs, like everyone else. But one thing I’ve learned is that true happiness comes from above. It’s not about material things or the number of likes on a post—it’s about finding joy in the little moments and being grateful for the here and now.

One of my favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11, which says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” How cool is that? The God who made the universe knows MY name and has plans to prosper ME?! Any way you slice it, that means I am too blessed to be stressed.

Practical Tips for Cultivating Contentment

      1. Practice Gratitude: Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. This helps shift your focus from what’s lacking to what’s already present in your life.

      1. Let Go of Comparisons: Comparison is truly the thief of joy. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your own journey and progress. Celebrate your wins and learn from your mistakes.

      1. Find Joy in Simple Things: Happiness doesn’t have to be grand or expensive; it can be found in simple moments like sipping a cup of coffee or spending time with loved ones.

      1. Live Mindfully: Being present in the moment allows you to fully experience and appreciate life. Slow down and notice the beauty around you.

      1. Surround Yourself with Positive Influences: The people we surround ourselves with play a big role in our overall happiness. Choose to spend time with those who uplift and support you.

Embracing Contentment for a Happier Life

When we let go of chasing external sources of happiness and instead focus on cultivating contentment within ourselves, we open up a world of possibilities. We become more resilient, creative, and fulfilled individuals.

    Aging and Perspective

One of the significant perks of aging is the ability to keep all of life’s ups and downs in perspective. I believe the best is yet to come, so I try hard to roll with the punches and never let life keep me down for too long. Life is beautiful, and each day is a gift. Part 2… because I couldn’t leave it there.
Yes, life is fragile—but it’s also still ours today.Another morning, another chance to get it right, to love a little deeper, to walk a little closer with God.
That’s the gift. That’s the good news.
We’re still here… and that means there’s still time.

Feeling a bit sad today realizing that as the Bible says, “we are but a vapor”
In a hundred years nobody will care what makeup or designer clothing we wore.
I didn’t even know Susanne personally, but just knowing that she went in for arthroscopic knee surgery , came home and passed away a few days later from a blood clot is something I haven’t been able to shake. We are around the same age, attended the same HIIT class, just
living our mature years with the pesky achy joints that come along with aging.
Suddenly her husband is a widower, and her daughter is motherless. Just like that.
Are we prepared for the inevitable? Have You made peace with God today?

Psalm 90:10 states: “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow…”(threescores and ten equals 70 years) No doubt we are witnessing all kinds of longevity boosters that might buy us a few more years these days, but still.

James 4:14 says “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

So although this is a sad and sobering message, here’s the Good News:

1 John 5:13 states: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life”

Do you believe?

Part 2 is coming up. Stay tuned.

Heading to church… I would say help me pick but I already picked. I decided to go with the tie front. It’s a little more flattering and I get to show the details on these pants.
This great shirt is thrifted and it’s by Sandra Ingrish. The asymmetrical pants are both classic and fun.

    Part 2. Be Patient.
The first man who buys you coffee is not necessarily the one walking you down the aisle — and that’s okay. Dating at this stage of life is about discovery, not desperation. Keep it light. Keep it fun. A coffee date can turn into a great friendship, a confidence boost, or the foundation of something beautiful. You don’t have to rush the process.
Get to know people. Ask questions. Laugh more. Expect less pressure and more connection.
And to all the men out there dating over 50 — I want to hear from YOU. Drop your experience in the comments 👇 What do you wish women knew? What surprised you about dating at this stage?

Part 1-Dating at any age is not for the faint of heart these days-but if you’re over 40…Ooooh Chile, it can be a real challenge in this changing world.
Some of you ladies give up after one or two dates, some of y’all don’t even wanna get started, and then lament about being alone. I’ve even helped some women with their profile, and then for some reason they don’t go online. I know it’s not for everyone, and there are a lot of creeps out there, but like Lotto-“You’ve gotta be in it to win it!” Stay hopeful, be wise, and stay at it if a relationship is your goal.
People often ask me where my husband and I met, so I put together a FREE Download with some dating sites, and a few tips about online dating. If you want it write “Download” in the comments and I’ll send the link to you!
