Gray Hair Transition Update

How Choosing Gray Hair Changes Everything.

I am about 17 months into my transition in these photos. The first photo was taken in March in a photoshoot I had with Susie Lang @women.60. plus, and the one below was taken on my stoop in Brooklyn. Both photos were taken on the cusp of the pandemic and nobody knew exactly what was ahead, and the fear in the air was palpable. Susie and I completed our shoot, and then scurried home.

For months afterwards, most of my shoots were taken on my stoop, or a few blocks away from my home. Nobody was venturing too far from home in the early days of the virus. They were frightening days indeed. Especially in the cities. Especially New York City.

I was in full grombre stage here. Half gray, half colored hair creating an ombre effect, thus the term grombre was made famous in the community coined by the inspirational Martha Truslow Smith @grombre

I post a lot of photos with straight hair because the gray hair looks more pronounced and I can see exactly where I am. At this point in the journey, I am committed and comfortable with my gray hair. The two or three colors no longer bother me, and I am starting to get compliments from passersby. What has choosing to go gray changed in my life?? For one thing, as a creative New Yorker, I wore black and gray most of my life. Now, I am exploring brighter bolder colors more often, and feeling more comfortable in them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In chatting with Susie Lang before our photoshoot, she mentioned feeling invisible after a certain age, and wanting to take charge by doing something different. That birthed her amazing Instagram page featuring her stunning photos of women over sixty in all walks of life ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Same here. Since going gray I am exploring new things and approaching life with boldness. A literal coming of age. 😀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We are not fading into the background the way previous generations did, we are taking charge, and looking fabulous while doing it!

What are you doing differently since becoming a silver sister? ⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of these verses: Philippians 4:6-7
It’s easy to look around and get stressed out. Shoot, even social media can stress us out, whether we’re consuming and doom scrolling, or keeping up with content creation. Everything is moving fast and what’s new today is literally old news tomorrow, so the pressure to keep up is reel.😆 Hanging on to this verse is priceless, so we don’t have to hang onto stress.
And we can still be Fly y’all!
Did you need this reminder? Say Amen!!

I told you all it’s not really a big dress up town, so I’ll be going to church kind of casual today. God knows our hearts.
Quoting Hebrews 4:12 today. The Word cuts deep, and this verse explains it well.
It exposes our hearts and our motives. That’s why so many run from it, not realizing that it’s actually the way to real peace.
Have a blessed week y’all!!

They say everything old is new again—and this kitchen remodel before and after proves it.
Nothing was broken. We just wanted better. More intentional. More us.
Dave’s been talking about giving the kitchen a facelift for years, so we finally said, alright, let’s do it right. We removed cabinets, repainted, upgraded the flow, and brought in new appliances—yes, from @bestbuy. Don’t sleep on Best Buy. That electronics-only reputation is outdated.
A smart kitchen refresh doesn’t have to be a full teardown. Sometimes new color, better function, and thoughtful upgrades are enough to make the whole space feel brand new. Floating shelves are next, and Part 2 is coming.
These baby boomers are not trying to be cold, confused, or outdated.
We’re inside. Comfortable. And very happy with our Café appliances.
