After perming, straightening, and pressing my hair for decades, when I was pregnant with my youngest son Kris, I decided to stop all of that and go Natural. I mean, I stopped putting perm my hair. I used to go to an old-time beauty salon where they would still use a hot comb to straighten your hair and as my perm was growing out, she would put vinegar in my hair and wash it. I can still smell it thinking about it. IYKYK.
Ms. Frances made my hair grow out so long, thick,and healthy in that little shop on Fulton St. in Brooklyn. After he was born, I used to bring Kris along in his little carrier, and set him down beside me.
He was such a good baby.
I never put those chemicals in my hair again. I do still switch between straight and Curly, but I usually blow it out and flat iron.
After 30 years, I have perfected my twist out game.
Anyway, thanks for walking with me down memory lane in the days before my grays…

I may be late for Grandparents Day, but loving these beautiful souls is an everyday celebration.
They are my raison d’être—my reason for being—and the reason FlyGrannyBK exists. They’ve filled my years with laughter, pride, purpose, and more love than these 20 photos could ever hold.
The truth is, I’m only a Fly Granny because they made me one—and it will forever be one of my greatest blessings.
